New, different type of bike racks

The Public Building Commission of the city of Chicago is installing a different type of bike rack in some public locations. Specifically, at the Albany Park Public library, now under construction and due to open in the fall of 2014.

Is anyone familiar with this type of bike rack? Has anyone seen them anyplace else? Has anyone use them to lock up their bikes? Are there any locations where they're already located?

Maybe I'm wrong, but they don't look too practical to me.

I like it.

It seems to possibly use less material than the standard wave rack. It takes up less space, and you can have four posts in a square configuration instead of a straight line, if you wanted.

There seems to be no way to use a pipe cutter to cut the rack. And if one gets damaged (read: run over by a car) the others are still intact.

The only negative would be higher install costs for labor.

I'm not sure I'd be able to use my mini u-lock with that rack. Looks great if you're using a cable lock.

Also, gonna be really hard to get 2 bikes per post there. And from the picture on the manufacturer's site, a standard U-lock appears to barely fit. So mini U-locks would appear not to work.
