Ride of Silence - May 18, 2016 - One day. One time. World wide.

Join the annual Ride of Silence, an organized annual cycling procession honoring those that have been injured or killed. The goal is to raise awareness that we are here, and to ask that we all share the road.

Save the date for the 2017 Chicago Ride Of Silence - May 17, 2017

Our route typically passes several Ghost Bikes, which are powerful memorials to fallen cyclists created by painting a bicycle white and placing it at or near the site of the cyclist’s death.

According to this blog, "In 2008, a total of 27 bicycle riders were killed and 3,385 seriously injured in Illinois bicycle accidents."

E.A. and I were fortunate to meet the founder of ROS last weekend at the Michigan Bike Summit. We also had dinner with him and a number of other folks who organize one of the 35 ROS in Michigan. You can read about our adventure here.

Route being set tonight - hopefully. The main difference from last year's route will be an effort to pass Liza Whitacre's bike at Wellington & Damen.

Thanks for that catch, Dan, I somehow didn't realize there was a ROS meeting tonight. Really really should go but I barely slept last night and still trying to get over a cold . . .

Need to start getting some of the bikes rehabbed in prep for the May 19 ride. Have there been any decisions on which bikes will be visited, to help prioritize?
I plan to schedule some missions in the chainlink calendar-- will post a mention here.

As some know, I recently updated my ghost bike content, which includes a sample route passing all (not proposing for RoS, just reference): http://bedno.com/ghosts
Accepting donations online was mentioned on agenda. Y'all are free to snag and alter the super simple PayPal button and source here, and of course donations is a BreakTheGridlock.org core function. Not trying to self promote, just being useful. Other than noting the preceding I'm out. Have a great meeting!
