Ride of Silence - May 18, 2016 - One day. One time. World wide.

Join the annual Ride of Silence, an organized annual cycling procession honoring those that have been injured or killed. The goal is to raise awareness that we are here, and to ask that we all share the road.

Save the date for the 2017 Chicago Ride Of Silence - May 17, 2017

Our route typically passes several Ghost Bikes, which are powerful memorials to fallen cyclists created by painting a bicycle white and placing it at or near the site of the cyclist’s death.

DATE: May 17, 2017 (always the 3rd Wednesday of May)
TIME: Gather at 6:00 pm; Depart at 6:30pm
WHERE: Hundreds of locations world wide; Eternal Flame (Daley Plaza) in Chicago

Communities throughout Chicagoland participate in the Ride of Silence including: Arlington Heights, Bartlett, Elk Grove Village, Evanston, Joliet, Oak Park and Peoria.

I just emailed a cycling blogger in Alaska... but how cool would it be to have an RoS registered to take place in all 50 states! Spread the word - Let the Silence Roar!

EA and I received an email this morning from Chris Phelan - the founder of the Ride of Silence. The 2010 ride is now planned for 21 countries on 7 continents: Antarctica, Aruba Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, Cyprus, Ecuador, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, St Kitts-Nevis, Sweden, USA.

It is planned for 47 states and here is where we need your help. Do you know anyone who lives in: Alaska, Montana, or Wyoming? Can you talk/email them and convince them to do a Ride of Silence and post it on the www.rideofsilence.org website? thanks.

Someone in the ride told his mother she didn't belong there because her husband wasn't killed in Chicago. So he said he doesn't know if they will attend this year.
Sounds like a miscommunication-- I can't imagine anyone would say that.

The 2010 ride route is being finalized. I can tell you that the route officially ends at Liza Whitacre's bike at Damen and Wellington. From there, riders are invited to a post-ride gathering being hosted at Lillstreet Art Center across the street from the 1,000 Ghost Bikes Monument at 4401 N. Ravenswood.

Stay tuned... We will be looking for volunteers to organize a ride back to the starting location for riders who need to get back to the downtown area. The Art Center is close to public transportation and bike routes.

One fact to keep in mind - this Ride is for all riders EVERYWHERE!

I just heard from a rider who participated in the Chicago RoS last year. His Dad died when hit by a motorist; he and his mother and a group of people attended the Chicago Ride of Silence. Someone in the ride told his mother she didn't belong there because her husband wasn't killed in Chicago. So he said he doesn't know if they will attend this year.

Please let's welcome every rider on this Ride. In Unity. We're honoring ALL fallen riders.

Ideally, I would love for this ride to pass all of the bikes currently mapped out -- in that order - to end with a gathering at the 1000 Ghost Bikes Monument. Due to distance constraints and based on bike conditions, we can modify route. Up until 3 days ago, the route was the same as last year - with the addition of Liza's and Jepson's bikes.

Please pass along final route decisions ASAP so I can prioritize the bikes that need work.

Final planning meeting before the RoS is Monday, April 26th, at 7pm in the meeting room at REI in Lincoln Park.

Route will be discussed - we need help restoring ghost bikes.
Outreach to friends, family, community
Need flyers? They are available for download from the Chicago RoS webpage
RoS pins (large and small) will be available. (suggested donation: $1 per small; $2 per large)
