Ride of Silence - May 15, 2024 - One day. One time. World wide.

Join the annual Ride of Silence, an organized annual cycling procession honoring those that have been injured or killed. The goal is to raise awareness that we are here, and to ask that we all share the road.

Save the date for the 2025 Chicago Ride Of Silence - May 21, 2025

Our route typically passes several Ghost Bikes, which are powerful memorials to fallen cyclists created by painting a bicycle white and placing it at or near the site of the cyclist’s death.

DATE: May 15, 2024 (always the 3rd Wednesday of May)
TIME: Gather at 6:00 pm
WHERE: Hundreds of locations world wide; Dickens Greenway Plaza in Lincoln Park, Chicago
One day. One Time. World wide.

Communities throughout Chicagoland participate in the Ride of Silence including: Arlington Heights, Bartlett, Elk Grove Village, Evanston, Joliet, Oak Park and Peoria.

Wherever you ride, we ride in unity.

If I can, then sure! What do you need me (this group) to do?

Yes, plan to finish again this year at Western and Augusta. I will be sure our route passes Mandy's bike. Thanks to all who work on the Ghost Bikes!

The one in Arlington Heights, as I live in the NW 'burbs (in Schaumburg).

I'm done making the (simple inner-tube) armbands: 300 for the Chicago and 100 for the Arlington Heights rides ...

My armband count now stands at 200 ...

I'm working on those armbands, over 50 made so far ...

Why is this ride so important?
Take a look at any ghost bike and you'll know.

Have you ever been hit or know someone who has?
Post your story here! We ride for you, in unity.

Let the silence roar!

We have buttons available -- I invite everyone to proudly wear one and pass them out to local shops. Let's promote this ride! Need buttons? Contact me!

The Chicago ride seeks donations/sponsorship/funding to help cover the cost of the event's ride insurance. As a stand alone ride, the cost would be minimal per rider expense, but this ride remains completely free and open to all. So... we reach out to the community for help, suggestions, contributions. One idea I received from family was to seek sponsorship from the auto industry for our ride; like the idea - could it work?
Shoot me your ideas.
Any shops/clubs/groups with ride insurance willing to sponsor the ride?

Monday, March 30 at 7:30pm, is the next planning meeting at REI. See ya there!
