Ride of Silence - May 15, 2024 - One day. One time. World wide.

Join the annual Ride of Silence, an organized annual cycling procession honoring those that have been injured or killed. The goal is to raise awareness that we are here, and to ask that we all share the road.

Save the date for the 2025 Chicago Ride Of Silence - May 21, 2025

Our route typically passes several Ghost Bikes, which are powerful memorials to fallen cyclists created by painting a bicycle white and placing it at or near the site of the cyclist’s death.

DATE: May 15, 2024 (always the 3rd Wednesday of May)
TIME: Gather at 6:00 pm
WHERE: Hundreds of locations world wide; Dickens Greenway Plaza in Lincoln Park, Chicago
One day. One Time. World wide.

Communities throughout Chicagoland participate in the Ride of Silence including: Arlington Heights, Bartlett, Elk Grove Village, Evanston, Joliet, Oak Park and Peoria.

Wherever you ride, we ride in unity.

Please print out fliers (double-sided) and distribute to passing motorists and pedestrians when they ask what the ride is all about. Remember, we ride in silence, so these handouts are a great tool!

Also -- we need one pedicabber to ride with our Ride of Silence banner!

And -- any non-riders with a camera? You can help by taking photos of ride. Contact me if you're interested -- via Chainlink or directly at rideofsilence.chicago@gmail.com

Gary... that's awesome. I've asked for similar proclamations (from our mayor, governor and several senators) in support of the Chicago Ride and all state-wide Rides of Silence to be issued. We'll see what happens.

The Village of Arlington Heights has issued a proclamation in support of the Ride of Silence. See the proclamation on my page http://www.thechainlink.org/profile/GaryGilbert

Have you heard the latest? According to national event organizers:

"A quick look shows we're currently at 262 rides, in 16 countries, with more locations to be put up. I’ve said this many times, but, I am truly amazed at its growth. I never imagined it nor did anyone else back in 2003. I will continue to say this because it should humble all of us where we started and where this ride is today."

As Gary wrote in a message to a few cycling clubs and I'll reiterate here: "I challenge each one of you to participate. Make this ride a personal contribution to the cycling world."

Together we will ride in silence. Let the silence roar.

Hey everyone. We're only 6 days away from the 2009 event. Please join us in Chicago, Arlington Heights, Joliet, Downers Grove, Evanston or even Peoria. I want to publically thank Elizabeth for all her work on this to make it happen. We're hoping for a big crowd this year in Chicago and Arlington Heights and it wouldn't happen without her help. It is a somber event where we can reflect on others who have been killed or injured while cycling, whether they be racers, messengers, commuters, recreational riders, mountain bikers or simply take a cruise around the neighborhood. Let the silence roar. Gary

Now available from our webpage -- print out double-sided fliers to pass out. Fliers print 6 per page.

Tell those other cyclists you pass on the road to join. Laminate and stick in your spokes!
