Randonneuring Defined

Randonneuring: Randonneuring is long-distance unsupported endurance cycling. This style of riding is non-competitive in nature, and self-sufficiency is paramount. When riders participate in randonneuring events, they are part of a long tradition that goes back to the beginning of the sport of cycling in France and Italy. Friendly camaraderie, not competition, is the hallmark of randonneuring.

Is any one doing the 200k out of St Louis at the end of this month?

I did the full GLR series last year.  I needed to mix it up this summer so I did a 200K in WI and will do the 400K with GLR this weekend as well (love the route).  I did a great 300K out of Apple Valley two weeks ago and plan to go back up there for a 600K at the end of June.  Great group up there as well.  Worth checking out if you have ridden out to Broadhead just one too many times.  Cheers and stay safe!

Quad Cities (at least this year) rides fall on the same dates as those for GLR. I've only done one ride there (hot, windy 400K in 2013). The route was pretty flat, but the roads in IA were in much better condition than WI.

MN has some great rides, but it is a haul to get up there.

Quad Cities isn't too far away.  I have also done St. Louis events several times.  The nice thing about St. Louis is that Amtrak allows for roll-on bikes ($10).  I usually just take my car rack and rent a car a few blocks away.

Short answer - yes. You can check the RUSA site for rides in other regions: RUSA

There is also a permanent you can ride in Naperville: FVP

Is the GLR series the only rides available for our area?  I am coming in late to the game and would like to taste randonneuring this year.  The next month is going to see a couple of century rides, but I would like to start stretching a bit and see if even longer riding would be my thing, too.  Thx

For anybody that can't make it out to Delavan WI, I'm doing a ride from downtown Chicago out to Kenosha WI and back (Chi-Ken-Chi). We are starting at 6a and should cover between 200-222k (depending where you pick up at. Hit me up if you would like to join...so far two people are heading out.

I will be out there as well on the 300 k route. It looks like it is going to be a great day.

300K - I am now planning on riding this on what looks now to be a pretty nice day in WI. I hope there is a good turnout for this ride. It will be a beautiful day for riding those hills between New Glarus - Barneveld - Oregon.

I'm not the fastest guy out there, by any means. Actually my chain link handle is poking fun at the fact that I'm usually the course-sweep. On most centuries or brevets, I usually keep a 13-14 mph moving pace, which, with stops, is probably 10-12 mph average.
