Randonneuring Defined

Randonneuring: Randonneuring is long-distance unsupported endurance cycling. This style of riding is non-competitive in nature, and self-sufficiency is paramount. When riders participate in randonneuring events, they are part of a long tradition that goes back to the beginning of the sport of cycling in France and Italy. Friendly camaraderie, not competition, is the hallmark of randonneuring.

I have some great pics of the 200/300 and 400k rides on my blog. Hope to see all on this years rides and looking at these pics got me a little fired up this spring to ride the bike some miles. The Kettle Moraine Biker

Hello Randonneurs!

Just a reminder to all.

The Great Lakes Randonneurs, Delavan, WI, schedule is coming soon.

  • April 23 - 200K / 300K
  • May 7 - 200K / 300K
  • May 21 - 200K / 300K / 400K / 600K
  • June 4 - 200K / 300K / 400K / 600K
  • June 25 - 200K / 300K / 400K / 600K

If you are training and qualifying for P-B-P, two comments.

  • Join RUSA.org NOW,before you ride any brevet,  ACP will not allow non-RUSA Brevets to count towards registerations.
  • All of the brevets offered above are ACP qualifiers and even the June 25th brevet is planned to submit in time for the cut offs.

Come up to ride the series, become a "Super Randonneur", and then come ride the June 25th as a training ride unless of course you need a make up brevet.

GLR has offered all these brevets on the same day to meet everyones schedules and potential conflicts.

Our neighboring RBA's have offered Brevets as well.

GLR welcomes all to our well marked routes, support, and fresh new 400K and 600K courses.  200K and 300K same as 2010.

Further information and registeration can be found at http://www.glrrando.org

Log in, print out the registeration page, and mail it in and SAVE $5 over the "day of event" registerants.

Finally, the Super 8 hotel in Delavan fills up quickly.  When you call them, state you are with GLR and recieve the discounted rate.

Good Luck to all.

See you on the road soon.

Did Edwardsville 200 last weekend. Flat & windy! Temps in the mid 60's by mid-day. Roads good for the most part, but lots of open farmland so no windbreaks. Tentatively planning to ride the 300 next weekend, but that will be largely weather-dependent. i am a real turtle, tho'... dead last from the start and was hours behind most of the others, got in just under 13H (yeah, real slow!) Rode last 30 miles or so with a 75 year old gentleman who kicked my butt. Told him i wanted to grow up to be just like him!

Edwardsville: Depends on the work schedule. I do know that Shawnee Natl Forest is a favored destination with that group. That means hill riding akin to what one sees in the WI-New Glarus area. Yours truly will probably be up in WI unless the ride and work schedules respectively permit my attendance.

Anyone planning to go to any of the Edwardsville brevets this month?

I rode the Fox Valley Permanent yesterday, solo. It's on the RUSA site now if anyone wants to give it a go sometime. Look in the "permanents" section. Best weather would be a SW wind to have a tailwind for the last 60 miles, rather than a headwind as was the case yesterday.

I hope to be there :)
