Good luck Kelvin. If you haven't had an opportunity please take a look at the brevet faq and brevet tips pages on the Great Lakes Randonneurs website. I've tried to include information that will be helpful to novice riders.

Thanks for the shout out. I've updated the site and am working to add image collections from our Picasa Web Albums - hopefully you'll see yourself there before too long. :)
Anyone else planning on riding the May 5th 200k/300k? I plan on attending and participating in my first brevet!
Anyone noticed the new GreatLakesRandonneurs website? I think it is more intuitional and efficient now. It could use some photos, which we shall provide this season :)
I plan to get as close as I can to being a super randonneur :)
I am up for room share & carpool options from Chicago as long as departure is no earlier than Friday 5pm (due to work).
Take Metra to Crystal Lake. Easy drive from there and there may be some folks in the area doing this when you want to. I am only 1/4 mile from Pingree rd station. Depends on my work schedule when I will ride but I will do at least one 200K.
So, what are everybody's plans this year? I'm hoping to do a 200k brevet with Great Lakes, and possibly a 300k. Tried to get some long rides in with my friend this winter, but it's been difficult since Christmas. For those who have done this before, when do you start your serious preparation? I've only done one non-commute ride since New Years, and that was only 45 miles.
Many thanks, Eric, for the GPX file for the 600K.

There is now a GPX file for the 600K brevet. It's labelled as a Draft but I just verified that the route follows the track so I'm pretty confident that it will work OK. Remember the cue sheet handed out on the day of the ride is always the final authority, the GPS is just a navigational aid. Please let me know how well the GPX files work.
