Randonneuring Defined

Randonneuring: Randonneuring is long-distance unsupported endurance cycling. This style of riding is non-competitive in nature, and self-sufficiency is paramount. When riders participate in randonneuring events, they are part of a long tradition that goes back to the beginning of the sport of cycling in France and Italy. Friendly camaraderie, not competition, is the hallmark of randonneuring.

Lee, I got lost at exactly that spot in Milton too. I mentioned that in my ride report which I just finished at 2am, (I did that rather than actually get to sleep at a decent hour so I could function at work tomorrow).

I published mine as a Facebook Note, made public, which can be linked from the GLRRANDO site:

I'd prefer to have that on the GLR site so that it will be accessible to a wider audience. The site is regularly accessed by riders throughout the Americas and Europe - who knew? :)   It appears that the proximity to Chicago provides a lot of visitors with an opportunity to ride our events.

One rider had difficulty navigating the route through Milton at the left turn off of Rout 26/Janesville St. just past the RR tracks. The que sheet has the road listed as Sunnyside Rd. Has the name changed? IIRC, it used to be Chicago.

Alternatively, we could open a "ride reports - GLR 5/11" or similarly named thread here & riders can post there. It would not reach as wide an audience as having them on GLR website. But it would also not require Lee or anyone else to volunteer more time.

> Ride reports & photos might help us match names to faces

GLR has several hundred images and I had started to catalog and post them last year, there are several links on the bottom of the home page. I'd like to continue to develop it but I've been working on some other projects also. If anyone would like to help please let me know.

I had raised the idea of doing some rider introductions at the pre-ride briefing before the brevets but a few people didn't think it was a good idea.

Hi Lee, hosting ride reports/summaries on GLR website would be great!  I know you are already finding and posting links to ride reports from individual blogs. Providing additional space on GLR website will encourage riders w/o blogs to also share their experience. We communicate online but fail to meet in person in the pre-ride morning commotion or due to differing paces on route. Ride reports & photos might help us match names to faces :)

Spence,

Glad you enjoyed the brevet. If you, or anyone else, would like to write a ride summary I'll be happy to post it on the GLR website.

Great ride yesterday, the first 75 miles was probably the most difficult riding I've ever done and the last 50 miles was the fastest/easiest 50 I've done. looking forward to the 300km in June.

Bikes are ready. Beer is drunk. Not sure about the engine.
