No Chicagoland perms?

I'm quite new to randonneuring, having only heard about it last winter and only ridden two brevets so far, and I'm still discovering new things about the sport.  The other day I was reading about perms and the R-12 award and the type of ride seemed like it'd be a nice supplement to the normal Brevet season as well as a good way to get out in the winter. Unfortunately, it looks like the closest 200k perm is Eagle Lake Park, WI.

Being new to this, I dont know whether there has never been a Chicago area perm or if they tend to pop up and disappear relatively rapidly or what.  So what's the story? Is anyone working or thinking about working on a perm? If nothing's happening, I'd consider trying my hand at it (route planning is a ton of fun for me), but it'd be nice to have someone more experienced give some advice before I start.

Not sure why Perms had not caught on in this area. It could be, because, if you riding something less than 200K, why not just got out and ride.\, in lieu of gonig thru all the troble to register and set up a shorter event. Rememeber, if you want qualification of the perm, you need to set up the route per the RUSA rules (posted on www.RUSA.org) and submit the route ahead of time for approval.

If you would like me to preview anything ahead of time, I'll be more than happy to look.

RUSA is requiring some sort of web mapping to show your route (ie: BikeRouteToaster or Bikely. They currently are NOT alllowing Google Maps).

I've been working on a 200K permanent out of Naperville and hope to have it submitted this summer. The route is down to Ottawa and back with portions along the Fox River. Once that is done I hope to develop additional 200K routes and some longer ones as well.

My permanents will start close to the Naperville Metra station which will make it possible for those in the city to catch a train out and back (at least on most weekends).

A route out of Naperville would be great. I could probably catch the BNSF with a short ride out. Much preferable to driving somewhere - I cant stand driving to ride my bike by myself..

I rode the route today (and got deyhdrated - ouch, lost nine pounds). Anyway I'll be submitting it for approval once I finish the paperwork. My GPS says there were 3916 feet of climbing. I can post the route as a draft before I get the official approval, its a bit over 200K (around 211K I think) because that's the way the numbers worked out. There are some boring parts (this is Illinois after all) but there are even more scenic sections.
