The Chainlink

Just a heads up here first:

June 25 & 26 I'm riding up to Buffalo City, WI. Currently I'm planning 180 miles on Thu (to the WI Dells), overnight there and then the remaining 130 miles to Buffalo City on Friday. I will likely overnight in a motel rather than in a tent so I can travel more quickly.

If anyone wants in, it would be great to have some company!

The dates are fixed as that weekend is my family reunion up in Buffalo City.

So, if any intrepid souls want to join me for either leg of the trip or both, that would be awesome!

Hey Chris - I'd really like to know how you're getting to the Dells. I'm meeting with my group tomorrow and next week to go over our route and logistics. Your input would be greatly appreciated....bear in mind that none of us are in good enough shape to bike 180 miles in a day so you would be the top guru biker dude.
Id be happy to give you the route suggestions. I am compiling my route from g-maps almost exclusively (last time I rode to madison we took bike paths from chi all the way to crystal lake and then just hopped on rural routes--was a fine time!)

this time around, to get extra speed I'm gonna stick to pavement the whole time, so I'm using gmaps to cherry pick rural routes that look to have excellent road conditions (and follow rivers and lakes and stuff)

If this would be helpful, let me know and I'll try to bring em on down to your next meeting. If you like I could also try to draw up a map of how me and my buddy did chicago to madison last july. the ride was gorgeous, and pretty darn good rural roads too. passed by an ostrich farm like 40 miles outside madison. that was fun.

cheers!

How do your maps compare to the Wisconsin and Illinois bicycle maps produced by the state (I've got both)? Also trying to get biker maps from local cities and counties for the direct route is a daunting task - which is why I've avoided it until now.

Sounds like a good ride, but the 600K GLR brevet is that weekend.
I too would be interested in seeing your route.
You do know that Illinois and Wisconsin both have bicycling maps by county on their websites.
They are not the easiest things to use because you have to stitch the counties together, but they provide good data. The county maps are better to use online and for route planning, whereas the state maps are better to carry with you.

From Delavan you could use the brevet routes to Baraboo.
