Question concerning maintenance 4 Replies

Hello everyone,     I was wondering if permission is needed to do a little maintenance/upkeep on an already existing Ghost Bike.  I don't want to change anything about it, just clean around it, add a new coat of paint, maybe add some flowers. …Continue

"Ghost Bike" the play, is at The Greenhouse Theater Th-Su 3wks, March 8th-April 6th, $15-20.  Anyone wanna go?

By Laura Jacqmin, Directed by Sara Sawicki : "Ora and Eddie fell in love with Chicago on their bikes. But when Eddie is hit by a car and killed, Ora refuses to let him go. Instead, she rides beneath our city to bring him back, facing off against underworld gods and ghosts -some interested in helping her, some determined to get in her way. The more difficult her journey becomes, the more Ora must question what it is she’s journeying towards. In Ghost Bike, Chicago culture skitches off of Greek, African, and Chinese mythology, sparking a spirited mash-up of underworld and after-life as seen from the seats of fixies, BMX’s and ten-speeds."

Thank you, Andrew, for letting us know about the ghost bike that's been installed for Hector Avalos.

Apparently, a ghost bike was immediately installed, with a little ceremony.  Wish I'd known.

I presume Isai is still offline?  I'm tossing around Massoween route possibilities, and passing some ghost bikes always comes up.  Wanted to confirm that Augusta+Western need not be considered.

Blanca's bike is definitely not there anymore. Rode by this AM.
The one on the opposite corner is still there locked to a No Parking sign.
I assume that one is Mandy's. I'm not as familiar with that one because the sign isn't as close to the bike lane (E-W) as Blanca's.

Hadn't noticed this mentioned elsewhere, I think Blanca's bike is currently absent.  We passed Armitage on Kedzie on last Friday's mass, and I was sure it was the right spot 'cause I could see Mandy's on the diagonal opposite corner.  That bike was lavishly tended, so I've got to wonder if it's just down for rehab, vs gone for good.

Ghost Bike at the east end of the Williamsburg Bridge, Brooklyn, NY. Chicago does a better job.

You're absolutely certain?  I assume so.  I'll update my info. That bike was the second oldest installed I believe, in 2005, one of only a few visible in Google Street View, and in a most challenging environment.  I happened to have known her.  We worked in the same office.  Her hearing everyday sounds as music idea changed my awareness of city noises.

Good reminder about locking best practices. I'd already considered my U locks would only be useful in limited cases (such as to close a chain), but any possibility is better than adding to landfill.

Andrew,

I'll take em. Besides bikes themselves, I have pretty much everything on hand to build a ghostbike, (spray paint, tape, signs, etc)
