Police investigating fatal Des Plaines car-bicycle accident

Des Plaines Police continue to investigate an accident that left one person
dead late Monday night.

Alavaro Chavez-Farias, 52, of Des Plaines, was riding his bicycle in the 500
block of North Wolf Road when he collided with a vehicle traveling
northbound at 8:07 p.m., officials said.

A police report said Chavez-Farias had entered into the roadway just prior
to the accident, but also states the vehicle was in the curb lane of the
roadway.

Chavez-Farias was transported from the scene of the crash to Advocate
Lutheran General Hospital, officials said, where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy is scheduled for later Tuesday by the Cook County Medical
Examiner's Office, officials said.

The accident has been handed over to the Des Plaines investigatons division.

No citations have been issued at this time.
