I've done it out to the Fox River at Elgin, which was about 30 miles from Oak Park. I don't know of any camping sites there. I hear that there are camping locations near the Prairie Path in Warrenville at Blackwell Woods, but I have never stayed there or attempted to reserve any.
Last year I did take a minitour to Channahon State Park on the outskirts of Channahon along the I & M trail. That was about 50 miles from Oak Park, with about 15 miles to the trailhead in Willow Springs, and another 3-5 miles of street riding in Joliet. The campsites aren't super exciting, but they are nice enough, and the Centennial Trail and I & M Trail are nice rides.
Great thanks, if you ever do another weekend tour please keep me in mind. Direct email is bobsalas@comcast.net cell #708-837-8532 text or call thanks.

Keep going past Channahon a few miles down the I&M Canal. There's a spot along the river, not an official campground but I've stayed there a couple of times. Isolated but there's a covering if necessary, a bench, and grass land to pitch a tent.
I had pictures, but I can't find 'em.
