I wanted to start a picture thread where we can post pictures of our garden and the progress throughout the season.

I would love to see what everyone is doing. For now, I have some seedling pictures. These are actually from a few weeks ago, and everything is bigger and I also started cukes, basil, nasties, and some other herbs and flowers.

Tomatoes & peppers

Chard, kale, spinach, & lettuce

Thyme, romanesco (fractal broccoli !), and onions

...& my baby chicks, Enya, Ke$ha, and Tesla.

my attempt at a rainwater catchment system.  it started raining 15 minutes after i finished it.  ill check it for leaks in the morning.

im still finding easter eggs in the yard, too

Intergenerationally planting corn kernels at our homestead last Sunday on May Day in West Rogers Park, 3003 W Touhy.
thanks, noted.  this bin will probably only be a single season receptable anyway.  Winston got to it before i did and the top, specifically the handles, are chewed up.  damn dog.

Nice work. I would suggest thoroughly draining and storing indoors in wintertime or they'll be good for about one year before becoming brittle.

some progress on the garden.  stained trellis.  also ran the twine for the hop bines.  peppers are in the ground, mulch paths, corn is struggling but maintaining, and i have more thats still sprouting.  raspberries doing great, sethum is lining the fronts of the beds, baby grass is coming in where my room mate killed it, grass transplants are doing well, lettuces are starting to sprout, herbs like oregano, sage, and rosemary are doing great.

So it's not too early for peppers in the ground? Someone told me May 15th for peppers and tomatoes....it's my first season in this zone so I'm new to the time frames...Do you usually put peppers out this early? What about tomatoes? thx

i was a bit ignorant about timing on everything in the garden, truthfully.  the peppers are in the two front tiers of the middle bed. they seem to be doing fine. the only plant im having an issue with at this time is the corn.

Really??? May 30??  whoops.  consider me a bit eager to get started so quickly.  the onset of spring does crazy things to us.

Lettuce, spinach, onions, radishes, beets, chard, kale, and carrots in the ground.

Panoramic view!

This was taken in early March...I hadn't done anything yet except put in the raised bed.

And this was taken today.

& the chicks are definitely growing!

Nice. I love the before and after. About how tall is your raised bed? And those are some really hot chicks!
It's a foot tall, and there's no barrier between the bed and the ground so it's deeep. Chicks should be movin' outside in the next few weeks! I'm so proud...they're like awkward teenagers now.

I'm pretty sure the gooseberries aren't going to make it...the leaves have mostly all shriveled up. Money plant has been doing great, but then all of a sudden it is bolting and has little purple flowers...are yours bolting yet? (And the raspberries are sooo happy.)

Allison, that's really great!

How did the Gooseberries and Money Plant fare? I won't ask about the raspberries-- they're  indestructible.

Same chickens in both shots, from left to right: Ginger, Swan, Henrietta and Freckles.  First was taken last week of February at age of 1 week and second was taken a week ago.  They should reach maturity in July.

We acquired them as day old female chicks.  But we are starting to suspect Ginger is not quite as female as the others.
