I wanted to start a picture thread where we can post pictures of our garden and the progress throughout the season.
I would love to see what everyone is doing. For now, I have some seedling pictures. These are actually from a few weeks ago, and everything is bigger and I also started cukes, basil, nasties, and some other herbs and flowers.
Tomatoes & peppers
Chard, kale, spinach, & lettuce
Thyme, romanesco (fractal broccoli !), and onions
...& my baby chicks, Enya, Ke$ha, and Tesla.

Wow !! I'm so excited. I'm in Pilsen, near Western and Cullerton (~20th st). I'm wary about biking with plants...I've had bad experiences. I can always take bus or train to wherever you are...
Ooooh that's right by the Chicago Diner...I've been wanting to go there again anyway. Maybe even this weekend...I'll let you know. Thanks :)

Wow, some great photos/set-ups on here! Niki, your hanging garden is so lovely. I'd love to try that but fear it would be ruined by my cats (who can leap to astonishing heights in order to ruin such things).
Current modest seedling set-up:
I'm limited to deck gardening and last year was my first time trying anything more complex than basil. It turned out really well:
If anyone knows of community gardens with individual plots available in the vicinity of the Irving Park/Montrose/Damen brown line stops, let me know. Peterson Garden is too far for me and I think the new community garden at Lawrence and Western isn't comprised of individual plots. Otherwise I'll stick to the container gardening and occasional garden work parties at Gingko and other places. There's a lot to be said for container gardening, actually- no real weeding and few pest problems. I saw a couple squirrels around last year but they didn't eat anything, oddly.
Here are some odds and ends from my garden. Buds on the horse chestnut trees are opening.
Mushrooms are growing in abundance with all this rain. Don't know what kind they are.
Just got a lot of new plants from some friends. Lots of daylilies, dwarf iris, columbine, grape hyacinth, iris, and others. Not all the plants are showing in this picture. Got some planted. More to go.
Asparagus is growing nicely. I've harvested and eaten some. There are other clumps, not just this one.
My 2 new rosa rugosas just arrived from Maine. Holding them here until I can plant them.
There are 2 different varieties. This is what they'll look like after they've gotten settled in.
I've got some veggie seeds started, but the seedlings are still tiny. Things are a little off-balance this year, because we're doing some big house repair projects, including some landscaping changes. Looking forward to tomatoes and basil sometime in July.
