Just posted a B&W International Foldon Box for Bromptons in the main forum!
I added an 'off yer bike' handle (https://www.nycewheels.com/brompton-carry-handle-by-off-yer-bike) a few years ago, and it helps quite a bit. I also know that having the rear rack can help keep the bike somewhat roll-able. As much as possible, I try to avoid long carries - when I tire of carrying it is when it beats up my legs.
Anyone have Brompton bruises? In getting it open (back wheel), carrying it up and down escalators, carrying it by the seat resting on my shoulder, etc. I am getting bruised up. :-)

Yesterday I decided to bring my Brompton shopping with me instead of locking it outside which worked out perfectly because there was a pretty big downpour shortly after I got to the grocery story to get some lunch. I really love the freedom of having this bike with me to jump on the train and it's tackling the hills quite nicely. :-)
Hi all! Excited to find this group. Anyone putting rides on the calendar now that better weather is near? I’ve been riding alone since moving to Chicago in 2014. While I’ve had some very enjoyable rides - even did the century to Milwaukee twice last year - I’d love to find some friends to share the adventure. Cheers and hope to meet all of you sometime.

As the global trend of bicycle commuting grows (true here in Chicago as well), I’m very concerned that new Metra cars seem to ignore this fact. While I do appreciate that upgrades are being considered (wifi, fresh cars), it seems Metra has all but ignored bike riders. With many municipalities approaching infrastructure upgrades with a “Complete Streets” policy (giving priority to cars AND bicycles AND pedestrians), it’s rather disappointing that Metra appears to not notice — by upgrading cars that actually allow for LESS space for bicycles (including folding bikes)!
It would be shameful if one of the great pubic transportation systems in Chicago was evolving in an antithetical way to current trends. Please don’t be caught behind.

Have you noticed that the rehabbed Metra cars have eliminated the few good spots to stash our bikes? I encourage everyone to provide feedback to Metra at metrarail_feedback@metrarr.com.
Here's what I wrote:
New rolling stock and bicycle accommodations - Given the increasing number of us who bring (or want to bring) our bikes (folding and regular) on the train with us, it's disappointing that the rehabilitated Metra train cars incorporate no creating ways to provide for bike storage. Right now, without a doubt, people with bikes are second-class citizens on Metra, not allowed on most trains and never particularly well accommodated. I am sure that more creative thinking could have led to Metra finding some spaces where bicycles could conveniently be stored — even on rush hour trains. I myself bring a folding bike (Brompton) on to rush hour trains, which is permitted. The best slots to put these are at the end of the car, between the trash can and the first jump seat, and then at the end of the jumpseat rows, where the forward-facing seats begin. The new rolling stock has effectively eliminated these spaces, due to the different placement of the trash cans and the fact that the forward-facing seats no longer reverse direction.I appreciate that Metra is upgrading its cars, but it is going in the wrong direction with respect to the worldwide trends in bike commuting. I would rather see innovation effort put here than on WiFi.Thank you for hearing my views.
Radical makes nicely-designed high-quality transport accessories. That one should work for you even though you can't roll it along.But pray tell what unenlightened building is involved (if you can do so safely.)
The folks at One North Wacker freaked out several years ago when I brought my B into their precious lobby and folded it at the security desk while checking in, ready to get in an elevator and meet someone upstairs. I left and phoned the VP I was meeting and had him come downstairs and meet me outside the building. But even there I think they have a bike room accessible via a freight elevator.
