I'm putting CR18 alloy rims on my '54 Sports as the current steel rims are pretty much toast and I'm tired of being without brakes and unsafe in the wet.

The problem lies in the fact that these rims are significantly narrower than the original rims which means the original fixed-length double-ended Raleigh brake cable I have going to the rear wheel can not be adjusted to work with these new rims.  I could simply cut the old cable and destroy it to put in a new inner cable on the existing housing (utilizing a knarp) but I am loathe to destroy a perfectly good rare item just for a housing.  My front cable only had 2 strands left on it and was quite rusted stuck anyhow so cutting the final two strands and replacing the cable was not a big deal but this rear cable might be useful on another bike someday that is going to be kept 100% tweedy-stock without any new parts.

If anyone has any of the old grey housing they are willing to part with I'd be very happy to take it off of your hands.

This is the grey color with the greenish tinge from a '54 sports -no ribs, just smooth housing long enough to get to the back brake.   This bike had an ugly bright-white shifter cable when I got it and I was able to use some housing that came off of my mom's old Vista Duchess which was made in the 60's and it was a pretty good match.  So anything that is even close to being the right patina might work for me.  Come to think of it, I'll be needing the adjuster thingy on the caliper too as that stays with the old cable.  If someone has an old bad/rusted/frayed beyond use  raleigh rear brake cable I'd be delighted if could help me out.

Cheers!
