The Chainlink

My sister who lives near Tel Aviv told me I have to come next year to Israel for Yom Kippur. I asked her why and she replied, "EVERYONE BIKES"!

I searched around and found she wasn't just trying to get me to come visit her.

Although I bike almost every day, riding on holidays adds another dimension to these special days.

Anyone else feel a bit extra "holy" riding to church, synagogue, mosque, meditation retreat etc?

Bicycling is my religion, and I worship daily...
Sadly I have to work on Yom Kippur (Sandy Koufax would be upset) but I'll be out riding. ;-)
Pictures from this year's Yom Kippur (unofficial car free day in Israel).
It is! It is! more so than shabbat in J'lem, Yom Kippur across the country is silent. You may also like the Hazon ride from Jerusalem to Eilat in the south.
I did that ride. It is the reason I now am a cyclist.

What are the chances? I'd love to do it one of these years.

I'd happily donate to the cause! The beneficiary is an amazing school for Israeli and Arab environmental students called The Arava Institute. Two interns who were just in Chicago from the school were on Worldview on WBEZ yesterday.

Just a reminder to anyone biking during the holiday.....
