WTB - Steel frame (& fork?), 60 cm-ish, horizontal drop outs

I'm not going to be too picky on this one. I'll be modifying the frame a bit. I'm not looking for a cosmetically perfect bike, preferably just something that someone has lying around and wants to get rid of.

How tall are you, Will?  I might have something interesting.

6-3, long in the legs.

I have a nice old Italian road frame with horizontal dropouts.  It is 59cm c-to-c.

It's a lovely frame.  The only problem is still a serious one.  The seatpost is permanently installed.  It will never move.  If you fit the bike as is, then all is well, and if you don't then, I will keep looking for a new owner.  It fits me perfectly, I just don't need it anymore.  If you would like to see if it fits I would be happy to have you over to try it out. I don't need much $ for it if you want it - under the circumstances, it isn't worth much!

What is the cross sectional shape are the seat stays? Are they round or are they elliptical?

Round.  It is a standard frame of Columbus SL tubing with the double tapered, round seatstays.

Where in the city is the bike?

South Evanston.

Giving this a little bump. Steve's frame might pan out, might not. Does anyone else have something laying around?

I have a few frames in that size range..........Dawes Lighting, Raleigh (not sure of the model) and a couple of others I can't think of off the top of my head.

I'm in the far west burbs and travel to NW Indiana about 6 days a week.

If what you have there is the most common form of frozen seatpost, which would be an aluminum post bonded by galvanic corrosion to a steel frame, that can be removed. The seatpost will be destroyed in the process but so what. If I'm guessing correctly here we could discuss it some more. Bike shops often don't want to mess with this one because it's time consuming.

I fought and won the battle of galvanic corrosion.  Once on a stem, once on a seatpost.  Both times were ugly, much metal suffered but the frames were fine.

I have a mid-80's Schwinn 57-58cm-ish frame laying around that's yours if you want it.  Black paint, chromoly main tubes, with matching 1" threaded fork.  Pretty sure it was meant for 27" wheels, so you'll probably need long-reach brakes if you plan to use 700C wheels.  It doesn't have true track-style horizontal dropouts, but I'm pretty sure they're at least the semi-horizontal ones.  If you want I can check tonight when I get home and post some pics.
