Would like to borrow / rent a box or container to ship my road bike

Hello - I'm looking to see if anyone has a hard shell container or one of the "aircaddy" boxes that I could borrow / rent to ship my road bike next week to Cape Cod for a vacation with some riding. Would be happy to pay a reasonable usage fee! I just don't want to own something right away as I'm unsure how often I will use.

I live in Lake View and would be happy to pickup.

Thanks,

Mike

mike - if no one here responds, check the chicago triathlon club. they have boxes to rent.

There are a lot of bike rental places in Cape Code with variety of bikes to chose from.

Is the bike flying with you? I have one of these:

h' - thanks, unfortunately i'm not mechanical enough to make that work, probably should have thought of that sooner! But got mesmerized by the "aircaddy" box that only requires wheel removal and handlebar tilt downward.

dan - thanks for the suggestion, i will check there

Just Will - hoping to have my own ride with me for some long rides, but i will look into renting if i cannot get my own bike out there. thank you.

I travel often and bring my bike when I can. An air caddy is a LARGE box and will require a minivan to get it from the airport to your hotel. You will also have to pack a pump ,your personal rescue kit for flats and mechanical issues, and your bike clothes including helmet and shoes. do not forget a lock as well.

The extra packing was always worth it so I could have MY bike

Now with the airlines charging so damn much I often go without or find a place to rent a bike once I am there. Airlines can charge as much as $175 each way for the bike box alone not to mention the added weight of all the things you need.

So for me the best way is to bring my pedals/ shoes, clothes kit and helmet and my spares kit with a portable pump ( no co2 allowed on the planes) I also have a piece of paper with all my bike's set up measurements on it so I can get the rental as close to my own bike as possible.

Have fun

+1 After a quick google search it looks like there are a lot of bike rentals in that area with weekly rates from $100-$180 depending on bike.  It would probably be much less expensive and with bringing shoes/pedals/clothing and measurements you should be good to have some nice rides a decent road bike.

RENTAL it shall be!

Thanks friends for the guidance. Feel better seeing that some shops near where I am staying rent higher-end road bikes. I was fearing the worst but alas I see some good options.
