Friday, March 8th is International Women's Day!

To all of the female riders out there who enjoy the utter bliss of cycling every day...

And to those who have harnessed that joy to encourage other women (and men!) to get into the saddle too...

To all of the women who lead group rides, captain teams, write blogs, make and sell bike gear, advocate, organize, race, wrench, brunch, tour, coach, and parent car-free...

And to all of the many, many female leaders in Chicago's cycling community...

...today we are honored to give you a tip-of-the-helmet and a two-wheeled salute by way of your very own page here on The Chainlink:

First let me say that the Chainlink is welcoming to all.

One thing that I thought of that would be especially good for women who are just getting into regular cycling is a compilation of non-threatening routes for commuting, errand running, and recreation.  I learned a lot from just posting and reading posts, but it is hard to find that information by searching the forum.  We could all submit our favorites and I bet we would end up with something for just about every part of the city and maybe suburbs, too.

Yeah good idea lisa. I remember someone (maybe anika or jen james) asking for kid friendly routes.

Hmmm, my LBS, Uptown Bikes, is woman owned and managed and it's a great shop. Maybe Victoria's Secret could open up a bike department? Women might not find it any more accessible, but I'd sure feel a little more emboldened in said department. Offers a whole new milieu for ineffective pick up lines.
