It only lowers the bb by 4mm if you continue to use 32mm section tires. most of the time folks put skinny little 23's on their 'conversions'. even so it ain't a big deal- you have to be leaning over hard or riding w/ bmx pedals to cause issue.

It lowers the BB 4mm, hardly enough to really increase pedal strike that much and you can easily compensate by running a big ass tire.aggressively cornering.
23mm tires are for nerds; the number one advantage of going to a 700 over a 27, for me, is the great tire clearance it gives you. One of my favorite commuters I ever built was a 27" bike I converted to 700s with drum brakes and ran a 40mm tire on; ALL the comfort.

I'm about to put some Sun M13II rims on a '73 suburban with 700x38mm tires. Should have enough clearance. I'll post some pictures if anyone is interested.
As mentioned before, it's a pretty straight forward conversion from 27" to 700. Hopefully the smaller wheel will give me the extra clearance needed. I understand the tread on the 700x38mm Schwalbe marathon gives it more of a true size of ~40mm
Has anyone attempted something similar?
