The Chainlink

I went to go to open shop and the windows are papered over and there was a sign up that WTB is closed until further notice...

Is it the end of an era or the threshold of bigger things?

The calendar says Tuesday night was canceled, but Wednesday isn't-- I
m assuming they're moving into other spaces . . .

That would explain my experience.
I was looking for one of their wheel building classes. Their calendar is empty and email goes unanswered. Hadn't had a chance to ride by.

Anybody know another wheelbuilding class in town?

If Oak Park counts as "in town": http://www.creativechangesoakpark.com/Bike_Classes.html

I can't vouch for them. I just see an ad on Craig's once in a while advertising their classes.

Unless I find a deal* on a beefy yet cheap wheelset that I can't pass up (hint: 700c, flip flop rear hub, 126 mm spacing, 36h+) I'll be building my first wheel this spring without the benefit of a class. I'll try to remember to post my results.

*I realize that when it is all said and done I will probably spend more to build my own than buying a pre-built wheel, but it sounds like fun and is the next frontier of my humble bikey skill set.

Perhaps Rapid Transit will offer another class.

While I haven't built up hundreds of wheelsets, I have built a number of them in the past ten years so you're telling me that I've wasted a ton of time by checking the dish on front wheels? Not so sure I'd want to send out a wheelset without dishing the front as well.

If you're just building a track set a wheel class might help but there is no need for dishing the wheel because it has no gears...you build a fixed gear rear wheel about the same as a front wheel unless it has a disc.

You can probably just use a wheel building book to build a track wheel set...shouldn't take longer than a hour to build each wheel...have a truing stand will come in handy for getting it right side to side and up and down...just have an old wheel near by so you have a good guide to follow.
So excited about teaching the DIY class with Franco in the new space. Can't wait :)
So we've determined that they've moved to new space, but no one has mentioned where yet...
That's good news. Any idea when you guys will re-open and start doing courses again?
