I would like to pickup smoking.. but I missed my shot w/ trying to fit in during high school and college. can anyone teach me?
If I'm on my bike headin somewhere, I'm normally going at a pretty fast pace and smokin doesn't really fit into that... but if I'm on a ride fuckin around with a bunch of fools and drinking (which probably sounds aweful and irresponsible!)... then I may have a smoke in my hand... I say to each his own!
I think if you ride enough but still smoke it's not that big of a deal. I used to smoke in the parking lots before mountain bike races.
I don't thing riding can reverse any of smoking's negative effects.

Well I don't either. I was merely pointing out that smoking doesn't have as large an impact on riding as some people think. Would I ride faster if I didn't smoke? Hell yes. But as it is I can hold my own with most non-smokers and that's ok with me. I figure if I ever do stop, I'll be really fast :)

Overall I think it's just that more people in general are riding these days, and so statistically more smokers are riding. Lots of people smoke in their cars, why wouldn't they smoke while using other forms of personal transportation?

Awful and irresponsible? Sounds like fun to me!

What's the connection here? Does John Travolta light up after exiting the dance floor?

I'm not a smoker, but maybe people believe smoking and riding balances out. Their lungs won't go to complete crap, because they are doing cardio to cancel out the smoking. It is like that idea, I can eat a double cheeseburger, because I just worked out for in hour. :-)
people are just training for midnight marauders rides.
Smoke 'em if you want 'em. But the proof is in, it is not efficient. That does not really speak to whether I approve or don't. But each to their own. If you smoke and bike, good for you. If you don't smoke and bike good for you.
The concur is smoking up and trolling chainlink.
