What's your favorite part of the Milwaukee Avenue Protected Bike Lane?

Now granted, there's so much to choose from in that .85 mile stretch of bicycle infrastructure goodness. Sometimes the lanes are barrier-protected, sometimes they're protected by bollards and/or parked cars, sometimes you ride on the left side of the parked cars and sometimes you ride on the right side of the parked cars. But for me, the apex of the design has got to be the Bus Stop just south of Carpenter in the S/B bike lane. It's like being in Copenhagen, I tell ya!

My favorite part is all of that free parking!






Seriously though...It's less of a hassle to deal with the cars, than the car doors.
Side note: On my ride home yesterday, someone was parked in the PBL on the North side of Kinzie. about a half block down, on the other side, I saw some meter maids, and asked them why not go give them a ticket. Their response was: "Since there's no parking spaces on that side, we don't patrol over there."

I like the passing lane over the Ohio feeder. I ride on the right side, and faster cyclists (every cyclist, really) can safely pass me on the left.

But I doubt that was the intention of this thread.

I like that passing lane as well, but without parking, never found that to be a particularly congested area even pre-PBL.

My favorite part of the Protected Lane is the protection

I'll second Michael A's and add my 2 cents. The part where it goes from cars on the left to cars on the right, having to enter the "car lane" to make a right turn onto Elston, the part where cars turning right onto Chicago sit in the bike lane. My favorite will be the lack of snow plowing and street sweeping.

Surprised by the complaints. I think the Milwaukee PBL is excellent. Can't wait until there's a whole network of lanes like this in the city.

It would be nice if the protected lane could go all the way to North Ave or Fullerton. The constant switching between protected and buffered is obnoxious, though. Likely because the city can't remove any parking.

My favorite part is when people who ask others to respect their bike lane disrespect and dismiss them with dated, sexist, and stupid words. It's awesome.

But for real, my favorite part is that cars seem to be more conscious of not right- and left-hooking me when turning onto or off of side streets between the Kennedy and Grand. Not perfect, but it's something.

In my experience, the protected bike lanes are usually well-plowed by the city. The problem is when business owners dump their snow from the sidewalk into the bike lane. It got better near the end of the winter, so let's hope they don't have a memory problem.

The new signs reminding motorists to yield to bikes when turning right on side streets.  I've lost track of how many times I've almost been right hooked this summer.  I just wish they'd install them at all conflict areas - so far I've only seen one on each side of the street.
