I biked on Kinzie yesterday for the first time in several weeks. In the block west of Wells, the bike lane was filled with parked cars. In the block west of Franklin, the lane was filed with construction equipment. Has the protected lane be eliminated?

Last report I heard (probably in a chainlink thread) was that the alderman wanted it gone to benefit drivers and contractors wrt the new condo building going up there, but the city refused. Not surprising that they won't enforce it while the building is being constructed.
Are any bike lanes regularly enforced? I've heard a couple anecdotes about enforcement, but on every bike lane I regularly ride, protected or not, I regularly see cars parked in them.
This has been going on for a while. First the lane in the two blocks west of Wells were blocked for construction. It seemed that no parking was allowed at all at that time. Now the first block has cars parked in the bike lane, no cars parked in the parking lane, some construction materials at the west end in the bike lane. The second block has a huge piece of construction equipment in the bike lane with some construction materials, and the parking lane is blocked with construction zone signs. Hard to tell what is going on. The material that is there looks like steel beams or rip rap. I don't think it has anything to do with the building that is going on at Wolf Point.
Funny you ask that, I think it was last Thursday that there were 3 dif squad SUVs parked in the bike lane on Milwaukee. In 3 dif places. What was that about? I thought about smacking one of their hoods with my hand
I think the OP was talking about the westbound lane. There was still construction equipment there this morning. The eastbound side has been fine all along.
