I want to get a pair for summer riding—so just for rainy days, not for cold weather.

Found these Louis Garneau Pro Slick covers, which are made of polyurethane-coated spandex: http://www.louisgarneau.com/us-en/product/0/1083115/_/PRO_SLICK_SHO....

They also have a cheaper model— Neo Protect— that consists of a 3-mm layer of neoprene: www.louisgarneau.com/us-en/product/305541/1083073/Shoe_Covers/NEO_P....

Anyone have experience with either?

Or any chemist out there who can advise? :-)

you put the plastic bag on over your sock, BEFORE you put on your shoes

Right. But the shoes will still be wet. What if it's actually warmer and it wasn't raining anymore and you didn't want to put in the plastic bags anymore? Like yesterday.
Then you'll be putting dry socks into wet shoes.

then you ride with wet feet, like the rest of us :)

Ive been wanting some kind of chaps just to keep the rain off of my thighs since thats the only thing that really bothers me about riding in the rain. But perhaps thats for another thread.
