Was your front wheel stolen during Low + Glen Hansard at Millennium Park?

If this is your dark green or black Fuji that was locked to a bench near the Washington and Michigan entrance to the park, your front wheel was taken in a theft. The Chicago Police Department (District 001) have the thief in custody and took the wheel with them. CPD left a note in your spokes, but I wanted to try to notify the owner myself. I waited a bit for you to come back, but I had to get home.

Agreed on the Millennium Park theft risk.  I was locked up Saturday morning for the yoga and someone tried unsuccessfully to make off with my bike.  This was after security said that I couldn't have my bike with me on the lawn and not to worry that no one would mess with it back there.

This guy was definitely working that night. I came out of the concert to find him checking the locks on my bike and the others locked in the vicinity. I don't know if he had any tools, but he was wearing work gloves and walking around, resting on benches, checking every bike locked up looking for easy prey, which he eventually found in the form of an unlocked front wheel with a quick release skewer.

I've been using two U-locks and a cable every time I go to Downtown Sound this summer because guys like this are on the prowl. My bike was ok, but unfortunately there are all too often poorly locked or unlocked bikes/bike parts making for easy picking for low-lifes like this.

It was a good reminder to lock well and keep an eye out for your fellow cyclists!

Ben, thanks so much for sticking your neck out for the bike community.  We need more like you.

I made a special effort to scan the locked bikes both on my way in and on my way out tonight, since we get stolen bike reports at the CSBR pretty much =every time= something is going on in Millenium Park-- but I didn't see anyone or anything suspicious.
