The Chainlink

It has come to the point where I need a bag for long distance travel that I can sling on my back while cycling. I've been looking around and I keep coming back to these three bags.

Sultan $200

Sultan, 20.5 x 21.5 x 7" = 49"/3085.25"

Warsaw $280

Warsaw, 22 x 18.5 x 7.5" = 48"/3052.5"

Berlin $220

Berlin, 25 x 15 x 10" = 50"/3750"

Those are the stats on each bags capacity and clearly the Berlin beats the others but not by too much. So other factors certainly must be weighed into account. What about comfort? Weight distribution? Heat? Ungainliness? Anyone have experience or an opinion?

I'm going to Village Cycle right now to try them all on. They are the only place I have called in the downtown area that carries all three types. But I ain't buying today 'cause I want to hear what y'all have to say.
I can't make up my mind. I think the Warsaw because it has a handle at the top... Maybe? Does anyone have an opinion?
without seeing them in person/trying them on...the top handle is something i would frequently use. i do on my other bags. my timbuk2 lacks one, and its annoying to carry it around when not actually carried on the back. this is especially a perticularity whilst commuting and transfering to a train. is the warsaw a two shoulder strap bag? if so, its a clear winner to me. the name helps.

the sultan seems quite convenient, i like the easy access back pouches...waterproof tho? that one is def two shoulder straps, therefore a choice for me. i really like the narrower profile as well.

i do love my timbuk2 (single strap messenger)...customized online, great price, mostly waterproof, freakin huge!! but to fill it to capacity...as i often have...it just starts bearing down on the shoulder and causing back issues. afer using that for quite a while, i switched to a two strap system. i use that only on occasions (a little more since another bag was stolen)
Whatever you end up doing, make sure they have a 30 day return policy like the people at Rapid Transit- if it doesn't work for you, it's not right to be out a couple hundred and they understand that.
Yeah the sultan is super waterproof rolltop. You can dunk it and it'll stay dry. The rest are waterproof to a degree but not like a rolltop. I didn't like the Berlin they had at Village because it was a prerelease version. So I have still yet to try the real deal out for that one.
You could always buy the Berlin and get a handle sewn on to the top of it.Most of the art fashion college schools in town have students who will do it.You might even be able to do it yourself
why not just get a bag made for your needs?
Isaac, I actually do want you to make me a modification of your photo bag really bad. We should get together sometime and work it out. I don't know if you remember the few suggestions I had for your bag. The adjustable suspension bridge and an additional heavy duty strap to add a tripod or steady cam to the setup. Without those two options I wouldn't a) want to put my DSLR in a bag and b) would do very little good for me since I shoot a lot of film and need a steady platform to rest things on.

Also I want to get a pink strap for my lady friend. Email me me@spencerthayer.com when you have time to work on a bag.

The reason I'm not getting a custom one is price. I'm particularly obsessive about getting shit on the cheap so when I want something I use my internet nerdiness to find something cheap. In fact I just purchased a slightly used Warsaw for $120 from the Craigslist in Milwaukee.
