VOLUNTEER BIKE AND BREW, Saturday, April 27. Still a few spots left!

I posted this a week ago and got several responses. Thank you, chainlinkers! There are still a few spots open. We especially need volunteers for the second shift. If you're quick we'll probably get out sooner than 1am :)

Volunteers needed for shifts from 5:30-9pm and 9pm-1am

 

HOME SWEET HOMEBREW is a celebration of local beer making, a home brewing expo, AND a fundraiser for BIKE & BUILD, a non-profit organization committed to improving affordable housing through service-oriented cycling trips across the U.S. (Yep, coast-to-coast!) 

Where - Metropolis Coffee Roasting Plant, 5545 N. Clark St., Chicago 

When – Saturday, April 27, 2013 beginning at 7pm (volunteers are needed earlier for set up)

Music? Of Course. Five local rock bands will perform on the hour beginning at 7pm.

Funds raised will to toward Bike & Build's competitive grant program to support affordable housing initiatives across the country.

Event Admission: $20 Donation to BIKE & BUILD (Volunteers get in free)

Bike & Build is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to support initiatives addressing affordable housing issues around the country. It aims to empower future generations to become committed to a lifetime of civic engagement and inspire individuals and communities to create fair, decent housing for all Americans. B&B does this by organizing eight cross-country bike rides, each with roughly 30 participants committed to fundraising a minimum of $4,500 and participating in educating local communities about affordable housing. Through out the cross-country ride, each team of riders spends approximately 12-14 days of the trip working on building projects.

To make this awesome event a success we need:  

14 volunteers total (opening shift 5:30-9pm, closing/clean up shift 9pm-1am) 

  • Door/Will Call: Check IDs to confirm person on list has paid for admission and meets 21+ age requirement.
  •     Beer
  • Merchandise
  • General Assistance (to event organizers, bands, and/or brew camp reps)
  • Clean up 

Volunteers get free admission, community service hours, and so so much gratitude. Volunteers must be 21+.

Here is an older forum post that tells a little bit more about the people who ride Bike & Build across the country.  It's a kind of unique combination of advocacy on the issue of affordable housing and hands-on house-building...by bike.  My friend Natan completed the ride after college, stopping to perform bike salutes on hay bales along the way.  See picture.

I might be interested in going there, since it is around the corner from where I live and I've been at the Roasting Garage before for a beer fest, but I find it lacking in info. What to expect when I buy a ticket? Is there a list of expected beers for example?

As a former home brewer, wanna-be cyclist, and more-than-occasional volunteer; I would feel guilty if I didn't offer to help and drink good beer. Put me down for the later shift. PM me with the details.

You aren't selling home brew, are you? The ILCC hasn't been to nice about that lately.

Good to hang out with a few chainlinkers at this event.  The bands were super and everyone was really laid back.  Erin good luck with your ride from North Carolina to San Diego.
