Vancouver Sun article: "Nightmare of rules and regulations"

So I just came across this article and the comment pasted below. Will Chicago become like this with its laws?

http://www.vancouversun.com/opinion/letters/Nightmare+rules+regulat...

And then the comment:

"Nightmare of rules and regulations", eh? Welcome to the Queen's Highway!

Of course cycling is unsafe. Unsafe for cyclists riding on the pavement (where they are supposed to be) and unsafe for pedestrians on sidewalks and forest trails (due to the cycling faction with an atti-tood).

All these letters are to some degree confrontational. It's all about "You get out of my way, but why should I get out of your way".

If it's exercise you want, get a stationary bike.

If the so-called environmental benefits are your religion, do a risk analysis. Is it worth getting knocked over?

Or are you just too cheap to buy a tank of gas?

I have no problem with responsible cyclists - I see them every day (although most people don't because the trick is to assume you're invisible). THEY have nothing to fear from any enforcement program.

I do however hope the in-your-face faction are harrassed off the roads (and sidewalks) by this program, which I shall be watching closely. Vancouver Sun, please report changes in cyclist-accident statistics before, during and after the blitz.
