A quick search of Chainlink postings did not turn up any previous posting of this, so I am linking to the article for Chainlinker comments and discsussion:
I'd like to see designated bike routes girding Lake Michigan and along the other Great Lakes, at least on the American side. Also Transcontinental routes across the USA. Bicycle Tourism would make big profits for those businesses en route.
How would this be different from the many, many routes that Adventure Cycling has mapped out all over the country? Is this a push to put up signage on all routes like the TransAm (aka Bikecentennial)'s few remaining '76' signs?
