Illinois's Bike Safety Bill (HB1784) made it through the House Transportation Committee today, 11-0. We're very proud to have participated in its drafting along with Ride Illinois.

The bill does three things: (1) prescribe when drivers may pass a bicyclist in a no-passing zone; (2) allow use of a red rear light or reflector; and (3) allows, but does not require, bicyclists to ride on a roadway shoulder.

Now, onto the floor of the House. .

Terrific news. I'm going to send a letter supporting the bill to my state rep (Cynthia Soto).
