Two bikes stolen this week

Apparently the cold weather isn't stopping thieves

The First one

U-Lock was cut, locked up to the bike rack outside the Logan Theatre on Milwaukee. Sometime between 7:20 and 9:50pm on Wednesday November 3. 

Faggin road bike. Mostly white with blue and white accents. Chris King 1" Threadless Stem, Full 
Dura Ace 8 or 9 speed, Dura Ace Hubs to black velocity fusion rims, 
black Rolls saddle with gold trim and snakeskin texture, blue bar tape, white 
cable housing.


Then Last Night
A Bareknuckle, 56 cm, lime green, was stolen around 3 or 4 am from his gfs house in wicker park. Cut through the wrought iron fence. yay...

this pic is mostly up to date, minus different grips.
Front: silver Ma-3 laced 3cross to a silver surly hub
Rear: emerald green deepV laced 3cross to a polished (relatively) phil hub.
green near the seat cluster is darker than the rest from torching out a seatpost.
noticeable dent in top tube near seat cluster.
kalloy seatpost, fizik arione saddle
generic riserbars with limeish green ourys.
Sugino75 cranks with Shimano SPD pedals.
rear full fender with homemade light gage clips at the seatstays.

I don't know what kind of system Faggin had, if any, but a lot of Italian marques never had S/Ns. Sometimes the only markings on the frame are a stamping on the bottom bracket indicating the size or production date. This really breaks my heart to hear.

These aren't my bikes but my two friends', I don't know if they have reported them yet(I imagine the faggin has).
But they are pretty noticiable and easily id'ed bikes.

I don't know, except it doesn't matter. The thieves cut straight through with an angle grinder.

This really sucks. I"m sorry for your friend's losses.

That part of Logan Square is very near to where I live. I wouldn't leave a really nice bike out overnight anywhere around here. There are some pros working around here that will snatch up anything with any resale value quicker than you can say "angle grinder."

The bike rack nearly right across the street from the Logan at the LS Blue Line Station is the bike rack of stolen dreams. Leave a nice bike there only if you want to donate to the bike thieves health & retirement fund. I bet it is one of the most dangerous places to leave a bike on the North side. That might be because too many people around here have the ching to buy really nice bikes and that just draws the high-end thieves.

But if you have a so-so bike it's pretty safe to leave them out in this neighborhood it seems. I see the same old bikes out on Milwaukee street and Sawyer locked in teh bike racks and nobody messes with them (other than maybe an occasional stolen seat or so). The thieves only steel the really nice bikes here I guess. There is a halfway decent white step-through (Giant maybe?) that's been locked out in front of Cafe Con Leche for the better part of a year and nobody has bothered it. The lesson is don't have a REALLY sweet bike and if you do don't leave it out overnight around here because it'll be GONE.

I don't even want to own a nice bike. I'll stick with my 25 year old Ross MTB and even so I bring it into my place every night. Like my mom used to always say, "I can't have anything nice around here..."
