I had an enjoyable, although challenging, S24O from 3pm Friday to 3pm Saturday. From Bellwood to Willow Springs on local streets, Centennial Trail to 135th, lost the trail and took New Avenue to Lockport. I&M trail to Joliet, local streets back to the I&M, and arrived at Channahon State Park at dusk.

My gear was my '71 Schwinn Suburban, a small tent in a backpack, sleeping bag, a few tools, a box of granola bars, and a headlamp. Not ideal, but certainly serviceable. I had a lot of fun, and it was a cool challenge. A forty-five mile round trip was my previous longest ride. It took me six hours each way, but could have been easily trimmed to five by eliminating my wrong turns and mistakes.

Sounds fun. Was there any problem getting a camp site? Not full up?

Not at all. It was less than half full, and half the people there were setting up at 8:30. Outside of a holiday weekend with perfect weather, there shouldn't be any worries.
