This was a wide left turn. We do not convict people of reckless homicide for a wide left turn.

This story stinks (of alcohol, and in general):

Disgusting indeed.  But he deserves his day in court and a lawyer who will stick up for him and say stupid thing like "We don't convict people of reckless homicide for a wide left turn" -even when it isn't true.  That's the job of lawyers I guess, to get people off whether they are guilty or not. Our whole legal system stinks but that is because it is full of criminals on both sides of the bench.

But the guy was drunk, was placed at the scene of the crime in his vehicle and did hit and kill that poor guy.

Seems like an open and shut case to me  Hopefully he'll get more than a couple of years and a reduced sentence for his crime.    There is just no fixing the heinous wrong this man did -there is no "paying his debt to society" as he does not now nor will he ever have the means to repay it to any significant degree, much less in full ever.  As far as I'm concerned he can rot in prison until the world ends and I won't shed a tear for the "poor dentist" who was having a ***** day.  Now the guy he ran over I'll shed tears for it it will help any.

It sounds like this guy is or at least was connected with police officials or even higher up to have been gifted by that boon/oversight.  That is Chicago politics for you.  Pay to play. Hopefully he doesn't have any more get out of jail free cards up his sleeve and his friends in high places decide not to help him any more.  If there is a god this guy is now operating over his pay grade.

Looks like he was found guilty.  Hopefully he gets a stiff sentence.
