The Chainlink

. . . for those who didn't go camping or haven't joined any other event.

Start early, no later than 6 a.m. Ride from East Lakeview to Wilmette on the Shore Channel Trail, then take the North Shore Bike Path all the way to the border with Wisconsin; turn west to the Russell Rd; then follow the Des Plaines River Trail south to Schiller Woods and from there back east to Lakeview.

With all twists and turns, according to Google Maps, this trip will be approximately 115 miles. Could be cut shorter by taking the El to Linden and Addison bus (152) at the last leg.

I'm going to add this to the Calendar.

Short notice, I know, but if anyone wants to join . . .

Oh sure Serge.  Schedule this on a day I won't be able to do it.

What kind of pace are you looking to keep? Would you be averse to picking up riders around Evanston or so?

You are aware that the Des Plaines River Trail in Cook County is a bit rough right?

By "rough" you mean it is not paved? Yes, I'm aware of that.

Oh wow, I didn't notice you'd be taking the DPT right to Irving Park Ave. Its not just "not-paved", its not anything. Its natural surface and when its wet, it gets muddy and unridable except on a MTB.

I'll be damned impressed if you do the route you outline above.   Any bike I'd want to ride that far on isn't a bike I'd want to take on the Des Plaines Trail in Cook County.    I did a similar loop last summer and made it to about Dundee when we said "screw it" and cut over to the NBT.

It's just not a bike trail as that term is generally understood.  Much of it is more of a hiking trail at best.

Even more fun. But if it is indeed impossible to ride on that part of the trail due to the (possible) Saturday rain, we can always swing to the east and take the North Branch Trail, or even get on the Blue Line at Rosemont.
