You blew the red light east bound on Lawrence at Damen at 5:26 pm this evening.

There was enough time for the biker in front of me to make it half way into the intersection, northbound on Damen, before you came whizzing past my front wheel.

I yelled "You're an idiot!" at your big haired chick, self, and you looked back at me. I meant it!

I woulda testified for any of the cars, that managed to not kill you, if they had.

Keep riding like a tard!

love,

gabe

Witness bad behavior during your commute? Feel free to post. Maybe that lovely human can read it and think they are famous. Maybe you can also inspire the whole generation of kids to shower but we can start with small things.

To the roadie that hit a car while crossing Marquette on Jeffery on Tuesday:

You saw the light was red.

You saw that I was waiting for the light at the intersection.

You chose to ignore the red light and ran it and hit a car coming on Marquette, turning right onto Lake Shore Drive. I'm glad you weren't badly hurt other than a scraped leg. I have no doubt it ruined your day and your front wheel. It ruined the other drivers' morning who are not directly involved due to the traffic jam your accident caused. It also ruined my morning.

I'm sorry you're mad because I gave a copy of my GoPro footage to the police. I know you knew that it contained your stupidity and that you're the one who actually hit the car while they had the right of way (green turn arrow). I did give you and everyone involved my contact information. If you wanted a copy of the footage, you can call me and I'll gladly give you a copy of the footage.

You were pissed at me because you expected me to have solidarity because we are alike as cyclists?

I feel bad for you. I do. I don't wish any cyclists any kind of accidents with a car in any way. But you were reckless and honestly give the rest of us cyclists a bad name. Heck, the first thing I did was drop my bike, ran toward you, made sure you weren't badly injured and helped you off the road onto the sidewalk. I also called 911 as you requested.

Good man.

Cyclists (and pedestrians) that disregard left turn arrows are the worst. They all seem to think they know something everyone else doesn't, unfortunately that something is "I can screw up an entire intersection all by myself."

Sounds like you did the right thing. Thanks for sharing.

I was in a crash on the lakefront path yesterday. Another bike and I were going pretty fast, but he freaked out after deciding he didn't wanna pass someone and slammed his brakes. I had nowhere to go, so I had to hit my brakes too and I went down, sliding right into him already on the ground.

I got some bad scrapes on my elbow, but I cracked my ribs on the left side and I'll be off the bike for 1 month. :( :( :(

The worst part of it, honestly, is that the path was very busy, and nobody stopped at all to check up, even though I was on the ground on my back, unable to speak for a minute. Not the casual commuters, not the roadies in full kit, nobody. Please check up on each other in these cases!

Aw crap!  Sorry to hear you crashed and can't ride for a while.  That sucks.  I'm also outraged that no one stopped.  We all have to do better than that.

Yes...I'm surprised no one stopped for a crashed cyclist. It's one thing if a cyclist is off to the side with an obvious flat tire or other mechanical problem--if a person has no mechanical skills, there's not much help to offer--but a downed cyclist...you'd think fellow cyclists (or really just a human) would come to a halt.

"People--they're the worst!"

Hope you get well soon.

thank you lisa and alex!!

I'd like to apologize to the driver of the red pick-up truck who was turning north onto Halsted from Jackson last Friday at about 5:45.

My friend, I am truly sorry that I made you jump by blowing my air horn next to your open driver's window. In my defense I should point out that you were turning *left*, across a bike lane, with another car signaling for a left turn from the actual left turn lane. Next time you do this bone-head move, if you at least check your mirrors for bike traffic, you will find it easier to forgive me for startling you. :-)

To the sociopath in the attached photo, who nearly ran over my child in a bike trailer on Clark at Wilson where there was no room to swing around because of the broken pavement. I hope my words got through your thick skull, or that you never come back to Chicago, because you are going to kill someone driving like that. Next time I call the police.

if only the police would do anything about it if you called. based on the picture: the driver has rage issues, and he either lives in the Chicago area or is here frequently, (Michigan tags, Al Piemonte Ford license plate frame; gonna guess he has a "vacation" home in Michigan that is very convenient for registration purposes). glad you had a camera running to capture this POS, and his antics, and that you uploaded a picture so the rest of us can identify him if/when we eventually cross paths with him.
