Ok, so as cyclists, we cut a deal with the powers that be. In exchange for paying parking fees for the privileges of parking our commuter bikes in the central business district, we demand stricter enforcement of all parking laws.

Taxation can and should be a tool for social engineering as well as source of revenue. If we are not taxed then we are not entitled to representation. The converse is also true. I agree that throwing money at a problem is no guarantee of a solution. But the revenue stream derived from the tax base of those of us who commute to the downtown area to work is a source of strength for all cyclists in this city. The aldermen, the mayor and the city at large will pay better attention to their constituency.

I pay my taxes and I vote. Not all of us can say that, and that doesn't make me stupid either.

Well maybe that was an unfair comparison. The Jackass is a lot cuter than John Kass.
