Just my 2 cents. Riding with a whistle or yelling is the best option for me because it allows the rest of my body to be focused on the bike, whether it's breaking or swerving out of the situation, rather than scrambling to press the horn or bell. (If that makes sense?) But anyways do what feels comfortable to you and allows for your best safety without putting other people at risk. Enjoy riding, we are traffic...but with that comes the fact that motor vehicles and pedestrians are also "traffic".
