The WNBR-Chicago coincides roughly with the Chicago Blues Fest in early/mid-June, not the Taste of Chicago in July. Given the vagaries of Chicago weather in June, there has been some discussion about moving the ride later, but there is a theoretical WNBR DAY for all northern hemisphere rides, and I'm unsure how far the discussions have progressed.

Nevermind and carry on then.  For some reason, I remember someone telling me that the C-WNBR coinciding with the taste made things much easier in terms of getting police cooperation.  The CPD was so busy dealing with the festival that they thought it was better to cooperate than to try to raise any problems with the ride.  I guess I was mistaken.

You were barely mistaken. C-WNBR coinciding with the Blues Fest makes things much easier in terms of cooperation with police. The ride doesn't go near Millennium Park, Blues Fest or certain churches on Ashland Avenue. C-WNBR gets a cooperative police presence including police officers corking for a ride up Michigan Avenue on a Saturday night.
