The Chainlink

Due to interest on another forum and from a few friends I am going to be doing a 'group buy' on a chemical frame stripping process.

Actual work is done by Redi Strip an established and reputable shop whom I have worked with in the past.

The stripping process is a chemical dip that will remove anything that is not steel from your bike, this includes paint, rust, stickers, ant colonies and anything else you can think of. It is safe for lugged frames as the braising is not affected but it IS NOT safe for an aluminum frame because it will not stop at just removing paint, it will remove the frame from this plane of reality.

Does not harm threads, machined surfaces or anything else on the back and completely strips the frames of any debris or rust inside and out. The frame comes back so raw that it will flash rust in a few days so I suggest frame saving it AS SOON as you get it back. Scotch-Brite or similar products make quick work of the outside flash rush before painting.

Cost depends on total number of units dipped but last time i did it two frame and forks where $35 or $40 each so I would say budge $40/45 and you will come out ahead in the end.

Frames must be DROPPED off to me COMPLETELY BARE OF COMPONENTS by 12/15/09, I am shuttling these things out to the 'burbs for nothing but the warm fuzzy feeling it gives me to help out my fellow man so don't expect me to go out of my way here...

Expected turn around time is about one week give or take a day or two.

I will pay Redi Strip in full when I pick up and you will need to pay me in full for your bike when you pick it up, no cash=no bike.

Contact me via e-mail at Haynes_dug@yahoo.com if interested, please put 'FAME DIP' in the subject line.

I could have used this in the spring, I went ahead and frame-saved over the presumed internal rust. Think you'll do this again after this winter?
Does the process bother chrome plating?
I am not sure, I will call and find out.

No. As soon as the desired material is removed, washing the stripper away is best. (neutrailzing) with soap and water, then drying. Oxygen in the air can start corrosion. Apply coatings asap. Alan

doug - this is so cool.

I have no frames that need to go to the strip club btw

Dan
I confirmed with them today it does not do anything to chrome.

This is sweet.

My only gripe is the timing. This would be
a good thing to have access to during the spring
or summer.

Nevertheless, the price is worth it....but that naked steel would
have to be sealed immediatley and then wrap that sucker up.

nice post.
Do you mind if I spread the word, bro?
1. I am not your 'bro.'

2. I am really, really sorry that the time frame I choose to spend my money out of pocket and run around for the people of the Chainlink and other forums I frequent does not come at a more opportune time for you.

3. The whole world has access to Redi-Strip all year long, you know, what with them being a business and all. I am just making it easier for people to get their stuff to them and maybe a price break for volume.

4. Do I mind if you share my e-mail with strangers whom I have not chosen to do so with on my own?

Yes, yes I do mind.
