suggestion on possibly helping to get a stolen bike back...

I just read on the "Crazy Guy on a Bike" site that it might help to put a laminated piece of paper in each tire with "this bike is stolen please call so and so at 555-1212".  If the bike is stolen and ever ends up in a shop to have a tire repaired or possible tune up there's a chance that it would be noticed.

Seems like a great idea to me.

Not bad unless the wheel is stolen and put on a legit bike.
There's a similar piece of advice linked from the first page of the Chicago Stolen Bike Registry, only a little easier for that average bicycle owner.
a business card tucked under handlebar tape has been suggested.

in regards to parted out...um...parts...just identify the make/model of the bike you are referring to.
