Cops writing tickets for rolling the stop signs just east of the river, in the protected lane. You're gonna want to stop :-/. One of the cops told me he was going to "knock me off my bike if I didn't stop". As always, a bunch of sweethearts.

Well you are supposed to stop so good.

I'm not debating we're supposed to stop; but it was at one of those stop signs on Kinzie going east where there is just the wall of the Merchandise Mart to your right (no pedestrian or vehicular cross traffic at all), so telling me he was "going to knock me off my bike if I didn't stop" when I rolled through it seems a bit insane.

Yeah it's a little much but at the same time if you were a cop and had to deal with all the asshole cyclists that don't actually follow the rules they are supposed to, wouldn't you be frustrated?

When he said that to you were you slowing down like you were going to stop or were you speeding through? Cause I probably would have yelled that too at a biker that was going to blow through a stop sign.

Anthony's got a point. The penalty for failure to stop is a ticket, not a battery.

Verbal assault is not going to get cyclists to stop for stop signs. Chicago's Finest!

Agree that of all the stops on Kinzie that bikers blow through, that's the one that should be of lesser concern. Odd choice for enforcement.

I'm sure it was chosen for that exact reason – because it's easy. The intersection is a low-hanging fruit that cops know cyclists will blow through. Easier for them to throw their weight around and intimidate that way.

I also think it's a weird choice the day after a deadly single-car crash at Kinzie and Clinton. I would spend some quality time there watching the whole intersection instead of threatening cyclists further down the path.

That location has more pedestrian complaints than any other intersection along the kinzie protected bike lane. That's complaints to CDOT, 311, Alderman Reilly and the 18th Police District.

Good to know.   That makes more sense then.

Kinzie and Kingsbury is not next to the Merchandise Mart. I will admit, I usually blow through that stop sign going west, unless there is a pedestrian – in which case I slow down to let them by but don't necessarily stop.

Not sure what intersection you refer to. When I rode by they were at Kinzie and Kingsbury. That is not next to the Merchandise Mart. There are lots of pedestrians crossing at Kinzie and Kingsbury. As a car free resident who probably walks as much I ride, I'd say it is a good thing that they (occasionally) ticket.

If you say that there is no pedestrian traffic at all, I think you deserve a ticket even more, since clearly you were not paying attention: 2 cops and 4(?) bicycling ambassadors were standing in that intersection. That is six people not counting any pedestrians.
