The Chainlink

Last summer I posted a cry for help on this site when my bike was stolen. With the help of some amazing people, I was able to recover my bike. These amazing people worked on their own, and did it just to be good people. you can read the story thread here: http://www.thechainlink.org/forum/topics/bikes-stolen-help-me-chain...

It has come to my attention that a picture of my bike from this story has been used in a craigslist add offering to help people recover stolen bicycles. The person who has posted the craigslist add DID NOT aid in the recovery of my bicycles. I dont know if the author of that post is intending to be misleading, but since they are charging for their "bike recovery service" I wanted to make sure that people were aware of the situation. you can view the craigslist add here:

I for one would like to believe the person that posted the ad saw my presentation on bike theft at the winter bike swap and was so moved by it he was inspired to act.

The ad is back up today with the aforesaid picture:

Bikes get stolen every day in Chicago and if people are passive about it, what type of message does that send criminals?
I am simply offering to help people get back something that may have sentimental value attached to. Maybe it is a training bike they use heavily to compete in triathlons.
People have a variety of reasons for wanting their bicycles back and it is very valid. When you ride a bike everyday it becomes part of you and it means more than just buying a new bike when yours is stolen.
Please support the cause of returning bikes to their rightful owners or just say nothing. We are all trying to make a living and we are not all the same. We all have a common goal of surviving but don't have to make money the same way.
I don't criticize any one for wanting to make an honest dollar. It is the hoodlums that undermine hard work by stealing their way through life. This is injustice and will not be tolerated by the cycling community in Chicago.

If your bike was stolen and you'd like assistance to locate and repossess it, please feel free to email me with all the details. Please include your name, date/time/location of theft, pictures of your bike and any details that you can share.
