1. Yes.
2. No.
3. Deferred. This question doesn't even move the chainlink "nuts" meter.
Truthfully, the dirty little secret about the Chicago Police Bike Registry is that registrations drop out of the system after two years. In my case, I registered a bike with them in December 2008. Within about 20 months, it was nowhere to be found on the difficult to navigate Chicago Police portal of the difficult to navigate City of Chicago website.

I had a heavy Abus chain combination lock. I used that because my other bike is a cruiser with fat tires and fenders so a U-lock often doesn't work. I'll save chain for the rare occasions I take that one out and get a U-lock for my next one.
I am proud to say I did get both my cruiser and my new commuter registered on the Bike Index with the help of the guys at Bike Lane.

Elizabeth, I had my bike stolen and I found the kid riding my bike three days later. I got it back and I did not have the serial #. May I make a suggestion - Never and I mean NEVER use a cable to lock your bike. They used cable cutters to cut my lock. I now use only my heavy Krypto Lock. What kind of lock did you use ? The police and detectives were useless. I did my own detective work and searched for my own bike. I got mine back. Thank God. I have a french bike and they do not even make my bike anymore. There were a few scratches on it from the ordeal, yet it could of been a lot worse. Good luck to you.
