Hey Chainlinkers - you may know that I'm hosting a small group of people into Madison via Milwaukee from Chicago:

I have avoided downtown Milwaukee on the ride since it makes for a longer trip and downtown Madison will be drama enough for me. I'm really not that excited about potential problems which may arise from trying to get through a densely populated urban section of town to get to lodging on day #2 of the ride.
But people that wouldn't mind riding what is perhaps an extra 10-20 miles on the second day and who would look forward to a 70 mile ride on the third day might ask for said adventure.
So - what do you think?
If the ride to Madison via Milwaukee ever became a significant event it would probably have designated routes through downtown Milwaukee, in my opinion. Would it make it more interesting for riders this year if they were to take the less conservative route on day 2 of the ride and head to the Milwaukee lakefront? Keep in mind that the ride is currently unsupported and is a three day event - requiring panniers or a lots of cash depending on how you like to tour. Day 2 through Milwaukee for the pannier people would likely result in them shacking up in Delafield for the night - I'm not going with that group if they materialize but I'd be happy to provide directions.
I'll put more on my bio soon. At least then you'll get a feel for who you're riding with.
