Does anyone do this?  I took a class the other day and I have to say, I got my butt handed to me.  It would seem that vs. fighting the cold, AND the winter drivers, this may work as an alternative. 

Thoughts?

Great minds think alike.. 

Yet I'm usually the only guy in class. 

I do actually wait in the classroom extra time, so most of the women have a chance to change and leave.  I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable.  ( No locker rooms where I go.)

Holy crap it's a good workout. My problem is I'm so short they usually don't fit me cause they don't go down far enough.

It's a good work out... but then, so is any other class typically offered at a gym. At least in my experience, it didn't feel like much of an extension to my usual riding... but, it's better than nothing.

Personally, I just try to run more in the winter. I'll go spin if it's free, but I don't feel like it's money well spent. Maybe I just never found an instructor that I like. 

spin classes are great for cardio, but if you want to train indoors in the winter a place like HPI or VQ have computrainers, your bike on a computer controlled stationary trainer where the workout is set to your level is way more beneficial then just spinning.

I had your skepticism at the beginning but also really like it. I do the classes at LSAC in Lincoln Square.  You get in very good shape doing it..my class is 45 minutes and we are riding out of the saddle for probably 20 of those minutes.  Even though I bike to work every day the spinning strengthen my legs and gets me in great shape given the speed we go at. it is a much better workout than my commuting rides.

I don't like the blaring music. 

I now wear my biking clip in shoes which makes riding easier.

So yes I am a fan of spinning!

By the way, The first respondent was a female.  I know they are strange to you, living in your parents basement and all,  I'm sure they scare you, but really they aren't creepy.

I'm going to agree with Dug on this one. Responding to the question is this a good workout with I like it when the person exercising next to me is a sweaty, scantily clad, 20 something blonde is a creeper thing to say regardless of the genders involved. It's a gym where people go to exercise not some meat market club where people go to be objectified.

I've never tried a spin class, but so far am happy with the commute during the colder weather. I get a couple hours of riding in (admittedly, I generally don't "get my butt handed to me"), and don't have to cough up the bucks for a gym membership, which means I can spend more money on my bikes. :-)
