Greetings fellow 'linkers. Thanks to Leah for allowing me to post this here, and also encouraging me to start a group for friends and fans of the Tour de Cure.

Today is Diabetes Alert Day. It's a day to take stock of your own lifestyle and consider the fact that one in four adults is at risk for diabetes, as well as the startling fact that one in three children born this decade will develop diabetes in their lifetime. There are presently over 800,000 people in Northern Illinois and Northern Indiana with diabetes. Curious if you're at risk? Visit our Alert Day risk test!

I manage two of the nation's 40 Tour de Cure events and I would specifically like to extend an opportunity to Chainlinkers to join us this year at Bank of America Bike the Drive, and to use your bike to help fight diabetes! We consider our Team Diabetes riders to be Bike the Drive VIPs! You receive all of the amenities of the general BTD participants, as well as a bagel-freakfast at the ride, a Tour de Cure t-shirt, a chance to earn incentive prizes (such as the Tour jersey) and a separate registration and gear-check. Skip the lines!

REGISTER TODAY AT: http://www.diabetes.org/tour

After registering, our participants are shooting to fundraise at least $150, although most are able to leave that total in their rearview mirror. The fundraising benefits the research, programs and advocacy that the American Diabetes Association is using to help people with both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

Now... for the good stuff! If any CHAINLINK member registers to ride with us at Bank of America Bike the Drive before Friday, April 3, I will send you (or deliver at Bar Night!) a superfly 2009 Tour de Cure Rider in Training black long-sleeve t-shirt. Just enter the word "CHAINLINK" in the coupon-code window!

Please be sure to contact me with any questions at ergoodwin@diabetes.org, and please join our Chainlink Tour de Cure Group for more discussion and details! Thanks for your interest in the fight against diabetes!

Also, I posted this before, but we are welcoming the Red Riders to our Chicago Tour de Cure events this year. If you or anyone you know are riding with diabetes, the Red Rider program will provide you with a free cycling jersey courtesy of Central DuPage Hospital. You just have to be registered for the Tour de Cure and meet the modest fundraising goal of $150! Just email me at ergoodwin@diabetes.org for details.
